PS4 will out-power Most PCs for years to Come

Avalanche Studios' CTO says that the PS4 will out-power most PCs for years to come...

Linus Blomberg, CTO and Co-founder of Avalanche Studios, hyped up the highly anticipated PS4 console, which is coming this fall.

Avalanche Studios is responsible for the Just Cause franchise, as well as Renegade Ops.

Blomberg says, “The PS4 will not only be a very powerful gaming machine from a hardware perspective, but it will also be a social tool and integrated marketplace more akin to the successful mobile devices. It’s the best of all worlds in a way; great performance for demanding high-end gaming, good social ecosystem and connectivity, and integrated business marketplace. For Avalanche Studios, as an open-world games developer this is super exciting and opens up many new opportunities.”

“I’m glad Sony decided to go with 8gb RAM because it means that the PS4 will out-power most PC’s for years to come,” said Blomberg.

Except, that’s not quite true, Mr. Blomberg. There are MANY, and I do mean MANY, middle of the line to high-end laptops and desktops that have 8GB of RAM.  And for those that don’t have these high-powered PCs right now, they will become cheaper as the year comes to an end, so more people will be able to afford them.

It’s highly unlikely that SONY will be able to keep up with the speed at which PC upgrades, including ram and video cards, become available.

So, take his comments with a grain of salt…
