Project Rap Rabbit Latest News
The creators behind the recently revealed Project Rap Rabbit have just officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for the game.
The game’s new crowdfunding page finally reveals a few relevant details concerning what, exactly, this game is all about. Project Rap Rabbit will mimic the design principals of rhythm games like PaRappa the Rapper and Gitaroo Man by asking players to engage in a story-driven adventure where the action sequences are actually just elaborate interactive rap battles.
Project Rap Rabbit will break the genre mold slightly with a couple of new concepts designed to freshen up this classic style of rhythm game. Namely, players will actually be able to actually dictate the direction of the in-game rap battles via a dialogue tree that allows you to choose the direction of each song.
According to the Kickstarter campaign, the game’s designers believe that this dialog tree approach will help Project Rap Rabbit expand on the inherent addictiveness of obtaining a perfect rank in these games by encouraging players to experiment with new paths to success and enjoy a newfound degree of self-expression. This new dialog system is accompanied by an interesting keyword mechanic which requires players to consider the timing of certain lyrics as well as the timing of the beat.
The developers insist that there are no wrong choices in this dialog system, but certain choices which are more relevant to the situation will be slightly more effective. There will also be an online multiplayer element to Project Rap Rabbit in the form of competitive leaderboards that keep track of the world’s best.
As for the plot, it’s your standard tale about a rapping rabbit named Toto-Maru who must battle the world’s most powerful overlords in order to save the world. Accompanying him will be his trusted sidekick Otama-Maru who so happens to be a verified frog person.
Project Rap Rabbit Release Date
There is no release date set for Project Rap Rabbit yet, but the game will launch for PlayStation 4 and PC when it is released. The developers will also release an Xbox One version of the game if Project Rap Rabbits hits a $3.1 million funding goal and a Nintendo Switch version if that crowdfunding number reaches $4.95 million.
Project Rap Rabbit Trailers
The teaser trailer for Project Rap Rabbit provides a brief, but intriguingly bizarre, look at gaming’s equivalent of the collaboration album.
Project Rap Rabbit Reveal Information
Earlier this year, a rumor emerged which suggested that a spiritual successor to the PaRappa the Rapper franchise was being developed by the two legends of the rhythm genre. Now, we know that a new rhythm game from two of the genre’s greatest innovators is indeed in development.
Project Rap Rabbit is a collaboration between Masaya Matsuura (PaRappa the Rapper, Vib-Ribbon) and Keiichi Yano (Gitaroo Man, Elite Beat Agents). It also appears to be a collaboration between the two designers’ respective studios, NanaOn-Sha and iNiS.
This project was originally billed as a spiritual successor to the PaRappa the Rapper series, but it appears to be an entirely new game that simply invokes the spirit of its creators’ original works. Of course, that statement is a bit speculative. The only thing we really know about the game is its considerable design pedigree and the fact that it likely stars rabbits under the tutelage of some sort of ancient frog.
At least that’s what we assume the story is based on the game’s bizarre trailer and equally puzzling official website.
Of course, that’s all we really need to know in this instance to remain excited about this project’s potential. The creative minds behind this game are two of the rhythm genre’s great innovators. Before plastic instruments revolutionized rhythm gaming and flooded the market, titles like Gitaroo Man and PaRappa the Rapper afforded gamers the chance to mash their controllers in time with the beat while a strange story develops.
It’s safe to say that Project Rap Rabbit will deliver a similar experience. As for when it will deliver that experience and which consoles that experience will be available for…well, we’ll keep you updated on that as more information becomes available.
