Portal is Coming to Bridge Constructor

It's not Portal 3, but this crossover is pretty interesting.

Headup Games and Clockstone Software are teaming with Valve to release a new edition of Bridge Constructor themed around Valve’s classic narrative-based puzzle game, Portal. It is set to release for Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS on December 20th.

Bridge Constructor Portal seems to be more “Bridge Constructor” than “Portal.” The official description states that it “blends the laws of structural engineering and technology straight from Aperture Laboratories into an exciting new game experience, all under the demanding gaze of GLaDOS.” What that seems to translate to in terms of gameplay is a familiar Bridge Constructor game peppered with references to the Portal titles.

However, the inclusion of actual portals in Bridge Constructor Portal is actually a fascinating mechanic for that game. For those that never played it, Bridge Constructor is a pretty wacky game that requires you to construct some insane bridges over hostile terrains. The game really shines in its later stages when you must make the most of limited resources to complete some pretty absurd bridges.

In theory, portals will open up an entirely new dimension of absurdity for the game. The small teaser screenshot released alongside this announcement hints at some very Portal-like puzzles reconfigured to fit within the confines of Bridge Constructor‘s design space.

“For the last year we’ve been secretly working in our underground labs on the next iteration of the million-selling Bridge Constructor series,” said developer Headup. “This new stand-alone title will release on PC, MacOS, Linux, mobile devices, and console, and fully embraces the Portal license, one of the most beloved video game franchises of the last decade.”

Not, this isn’t Portal 3, but it’s actually a fairly amusing use of the Portal license that we’re eager to try out.
