Even if you’ve played Pokemon Go to death, the occasional events Niantic stage are a great way of giving the mobile game a bit more life.
The current Valentine’s Day event, which started yesterday at 2 pm ET and runs until the 15th February, could be a great way of catching a few rare Pokemon that might have eluded you so far. The event increases the chances of the following Pokemon, all of the appropriately pink and cuddly variety:
The update will also increase the likelihood of hatching a pink Pokemon, with Cleffa, Igglybuff, and Smoochum among the rarer creatures you might find emerging from your eggs. Lures have also been boosted to six hours for the duration of the event, which should make catching those pink Pokemon easier still.
In addition, you’ll get double candy for catching and transferring Pokemon, as well as hatching eggs – so if you’re thinking of evolving a few of your pocket monsters, now might be a good time to earn some precious candy.
From an anecdotal standpoint, the event was certainly generous in its first few hours. With the help of a Lure Module, your humble writer managed to catch three Porygon in the space of about half an hour – not bad going, since the creature’s never appeared on our radars before now. Exeggcute, Slowbro, and Jigglypuff were also spotted bounding about in the wild, though an elusive Lickitung vanished before we could catch it.
So there you have it: there’s plenty to do over the next few days in Pokemon Go. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to hunt down a Chansey.
