When I was a kid, the rival consoles of the time were the Sega MegaDrive and the Nintendo 64. Those days are now behind us, with the “which one do you have?” console conflict now firmly a face-off between Sony and Microsoft.
The PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One are their current contenders, and our friends at Amazon have some very reasonable prices for whichever one you prefer. Or hey, why not get both and make your home a no-man’s land in the console war?
Here’s what they’re offering…
PS4: The Basic Console
If you’re looking to buy a PlayStation 4 console, check out the 500GB black version, which could be yours for just $268.34. Not only is it one of the cheapest options out there, but it’s reliable and a classic.
Xbox One: The Basic Console
There are also a few options if you want to buy an Xbox One console. The most basic version is the 500GB edition (pictured), which you can buy for $259.87 right here.
If you’re after more storage, the 1TB options are priced at $285.90 at the time of writing; that’s not that big of a difference from the basic version. You can find the 1TB Xbox One right here.
There’s also something called the Xbox One Elite, which has snazzy chrome-y sort of finish and a different drive. That one currently costs $496.95, with 1TB of storage. You can find it here.
Please note that the Xbox One Elite is not the 4K-ready upgrade to the Xbox One. That’s called the Xbox One S, and we’ll get to it later on.
PS4 – Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Limited Edition Bundle
For $699.00, you could get the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3limited edition bundle, completed with a fully customized 1TB PlayStation 4 system and a customized DualShock 4 Wireless Controller.
Xbox One Bundles
While this one is only available from third-party sellers at the time of writing, you can acquire one for only $250 if you don’t mind getting it used, or for a hefty $599 if you want it new. Although by the looks of things, stocks are very limited.
The PS4 Pro is the upgraded version of the PS4, designed to bring higher quality graphics to those lucky peeps with 4K TVs.
On that page, you’ll find the usual plethora of options, including Call Of Duty Legacy and Uncharted 4 bundles, but at the time of writing, only third-party sellers still have them.
It’s worth noting that the PS4 Pro cannot play 4K Blu-rays, but this next thing can…
Xbox One S
It’s come as a bit of a shock to this writer just how cheap the Xbox One S—the upgraded Xbox One, which can play 4K Blu-rays and stream 4K content—has become. At only $257, it’s actually cheaper than the basic black version of the Xbox One.
The latest new trick that Sony has shown off is the Virtual Reality capabilities of the PlayStation VR headset thingy. The device would currently cost you $399 here.
To play the VR games, you would also need the PlayStation Move camera, which currently costs $39.49 right here. There’s also the PlayStation Move motion controllers, which work with a number of the VR games. You can buy a pair of them now for $99.
