Electing not to tease Overwatch fans for months as they did with the reveal of a certain hacker character, Blizzard has just announced that Orisa will be the 24th hero to join the Overwatch roster.
The above video confirms fan suspicions that Orisa is a tank character engineered by the recently revealed 11-year-old inventor, Efi Oladele. Orisa is quite different from other tank characters currently in the game, though, in that she’s actually a tank that is designed to deal damage from a distance.
How does that work? Well, Orisa’s primary attack fusion driver canon is capable of shooting from a reasonable distance but does drastically slow her movement while attacking. However, it doesn’t sound like she’s meant to be used as primarily in an offensive capacity. Instead, Orisa is described as a team “anchor’ who uses her fortify ability to reduce incoming damage and certain character effects, while also utilising a graviton orb called Halt! to slow down opposing heroes and even drawn them into the orb’s detonation range.
Like Reinhardt, Symmetra, and Zarya, Orisa will also have access to a protective barrier that can shield her teammates from battle. Unlike other barriers, this one is stationary which is actually quite useful for defensive holds. Her ult, meanwhile, is a nifty little skill called Supercharger which lets her increase the damage of any allies within her line of sight.
Orisa sounds like a great addition to the Overwatch lineup if for no other reason than the game really does need an anchor tank no named Reinhardt. Plus, it’s always nice to have another hero who rewards teams for sticking together. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait to see how Orisa plays as she is already available on the game’s PTR servers.
Oh, and for those of you who need your amazing Blizzard cinematic fix, here is the story trailer for Orisa:
