No Man's Sky Beyond Trailer Release Date

No Man’s Sky‘s next update (referred to as Beyond) will introduce an exciting new multiplayer element to the game that may greatly enhance its appeal to those who have otherwise remained hesitant about the title’s progress. It’s also been confirmed that this update will add PSVR support to the ever-changing sci-fi title. It’s even been confirmed that the full game will support VR and that the update will be provided to existing players for free. Needless to say, such a feature really sells just how large this update really is.

“The first component of Beyond we are announcing today is No Man’s Sky Online,” says developer Hello Games via a recent blog post. “No Man’s Sky Online includes a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together. Whilst this brings people together like never before and has many recognizable online elements, we don’t consider No Man’s Sky to be an MMO – it won’t require a subscription, won’t contain microtransactions, and will be free for all existing players.”

It seems that not all the details are in place at this time, but based on information released thus far, it seems that Beyond will incorporate and build upon the game’s fairly recent ability to explore the universe with up to four players. Until this point, that feature has largely been limited to the content already in the game. In other words, there wasn’t much content in the game specifically designed to encourage you to utilize the multiplayer element.

Beyond looks to change all of that, even if there are some questions regarding how it will do so. The fact that the developers name drop an MMO (even by saying that it won’t be an MMO), seems to suggest that they are on that path but will stop short of a full conversion. If push came to shove, we’d speculate that it seems likely this update will feature quests, activities, and perhaps even raid-like objectives that are all designed to accommodate multiple players in ways the game has not done up until this point.

That may sound like a relatively simple update, but nothing is simple as it concerns No Man’s Sky. At the time of its launch, No Man’s Sky was considered to be one of the most disappointing games ever made. Years later, though, the game’s developers have pushed a series of updates that not only bring No Man’s Sky closer to the original vision for the game but arguably take it…well…beyond that point.
