Darksiders creative director says the series ‘is not dead’

New owners Nordic Games have shown a high interest in continuing on with the dark action series.

Darksiders 2

Good news for those hopeful of a Darksiders today: we might just get that third game in the series one day! After Darksiders II was first released in August 2012, the future of the series was put in jeopardy when the game’s publisher THQ declared bankruptcy in early 2013. The Darksiders IP was one of the very last assets to be sold off at auction to Nordic Games, while the original team at Vigil was disbanded with many of the Darksiders developers moving over to work at a new Crytek studio.

Joe Madureira, the creative director on the Darksiders series, recently took to Facebook to answer a number of frequently asked questions by fans. On the topic of the exhilarating game series that stars the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Madureira had this to say: “DarksidersDS is not dead!!! The new owner, Nordic seems very committed to continuing the series. As far as my involvement, I can’t say at this point. Hopefully we will all have exciting news about the franchise soon!!!!!!”

That’s a lot of exclamation points, but they’re all for good reason: Darksiders is a fantastic action-adventure series, blending the best parts of games like God of War and The Legend of Zelda. How could you NOT get excited about the thought of a third Darksiders game? It should also be noted that Nordic Games is strictly a game publisher, and so it’s uncertain yet as to who would potentially be developing a Darksiders III.

But while we wait for any further news on one of the most underrated franchises of this past generation, you can keep your eyes out for the Darksiders Collection, an upcoming Nordic release which bundles the first two Darksiders games and all their DLC for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The Darksiders Collection will be released on May 20, 2014.
