The film will be called Ice Adolescence, and it focuses on a younger Victor than we saw in Yuri On Ice Season 1. According to some fans who were at a Yuri On Ice marathon event in Japan earlier this year (via The Geekiary), the film sees a 17-year-old Victor competing in the Olympics in France.
The footage has not yet been released to the general public, but it’s maybe enough to know that it exists and has been seen by at least some of fandom’s eyeballs?
Yuri On Ice Movie Trailer
Avex Pictures has released a teaser trailer for the Yuri One Ice movie, which is basically just a pan over of the poster, but, hey, we’ll take what we can get. Check it out…
The trailer and poster (featured in static form below) give us a subtitle for the film: Ice Adolescence. The “new original story from Mitsurou Kubo and Sayo Yamamoto” seems set to focus on a younger version of Victor Nikiforov (seen in the poster walking faithful canine companion Makkachin across what may be the frozen Russian tundra).
While we know that it will tell the story of a teen Victor in the French Olympics, I wouldn’t say no to a frame tale set post-Yuri One Ice Season 1 that causes Victor to think back on those earlier years in the context of his burgeoning relationship with Yuri. (Yurio can be there, too!)
Yuri On Ice Movie Release Date
Right now, all we know is that the Yuri On Ice movie is slated for a 2019 release. We’ll keep you updated on more specific news as soon as we hear it.
Speaking to Otaquest, creator Sayo Yamamoto had this to say about the next step in Yuri’s story:
I truly feel like the story of ‘Yuri!!! on ICE’ was able to be summed up over the course of it’s 12 episodes, but I’d be lying if I said that it was over. [Laughs] … We can’t stop, we won’t stop, we refuse to stop!
So far, Yuri On Ice has only had one season of 12 episodes, but it has taken the internet world by storm. The sports anime premiered in Japan in October and was quickly brought to English-speaking audiences via streaming service Crunchyroll and Funimation.
The anime set in the world of international male figure skating has been particularly popular for its beautiful animated figure skating choreography and for the queer relationship between Yuri and Victor. The first season follows both Yuris as they train to take part in the Figure Skating Grand Prix. Yuri On Ice is directed by Sayo Yamamoto and written by Mitsurō Kubo.
Presumably, the feature film will mean that we won’t be getting a Yuri On Ice Season 2 anytime soon. Hopefully, however, we will eventually get a second season of the sports anime.
For fans looking for new content sooner than the feature film, the Yuri On Ice Blu-ray and DVD are now available. We’ll keep you updated with any updates on the Yuri On Ice movie!
