Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe made a short anime film set in the Blade Runner universe!

In just a week, audiences will be able to return to the world of futuristic Los Angeles and Replicants in Blade Runner 2049, a sequel to the original sci-fi masterpiece from Ridley Scott, based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. The movie picks up the story of Harrison Ford’s Deckard, while also introducing a bunch of new characters, including Ryan Gosling’s Officer K.

Ahead of the Oct. 6 release, Warner Bros. has been shedding light on the film’s backstory, fleshing out characters such as Jared Leto’s Niander Wallace and Dave Bautista’s Sapper Morton. On top of all that, Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe had made a new short anime film based in the Blade Runner universe. The anime is set in 2022 and tackles one of the big events that promotional materils for the sequel have been alluding to: a blackout.
