Marvel teased a big event coming in 2018 with art and an announcement that appears to tie into Avengers: Infinity War. “Countdown to INFINITY” is a promotional picture that shows Star-Lord, Wolverine, and Captain Marvel each holding a different Infinity Stone.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are currently on the hunt for the stones in the pages of their own comic. I’m…not entirely sure how Captain Marvel got the Reality Stone, but I don’t believe it was in the pages of her book. Wolverine Classic reappeared in the pages of Marvel Legacy #1, taking the Space Stone from a Frost Giant trying to steal it from SHIELD for Loki.
We’re set to find out more about Wolverine’s journey to the Space Stone in January. Marvel has announced “post-credits scenes” [INSERT MASSIVE, LIZ LEMON EYE ROLL] in the pages of Captain America#697, Mighty Thor#703 and Amazing Spider-Man#794, out in consecutive weeks that month.
“Fans have been speculating about Wolverine’s whereabouts since he first reappeared in Marvel Legacy #1—and the Marvel Universe is left just as unaware!” teased SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “So keep your eyes peeled as Canada’s favorite citizen makes his presence felt in titles all across the Marvel line! It’s all leading to something—but what?”
No word yet on where in those books Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be appearing.
It sounds like Marvel will be gathering a new team of Avengers to wield the Infinity Stones timed to coincide with the movie. They even brought back classic Infinity Gauntlet artist Ron Lim to draw this promo.
Here’s the text they sent along:
Power. Space. Reality.
Three stones collected.
Who will hold Infinity?
The countdown begins this February!
