In two potentially offbeat choices for what is sure to be an offbeat role, Variety is reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd are being considered by Marvel for the lead role in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man film. Since Ant-Man isn’t exactly the most two-fisted of heroes, and Wright is known for injecting his trademark brand of humor into genre flicks (most notably: Shaun of the Dead), potentially putting a comedic actor like Paul Rudd in the role of Hank Pym, a scientist who can shrink and talk to insects, makes perfect sense. While Variety is generally reliable, there’s no verification on this story just yet, and they even admit that it’s still possible that the role will go to someone else. Since Wright recently tweeted a behind-the-scenes photo indicating that he’s currently in LA and actively working on Ant-Man, it’s likely that we’ll see a casting announcement in the coming weeks, if not days.Ant-Man is set for a July 31st, 2015 release, which will make it the first Marvel film to hit screens after the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron and will open close enough to Warner Bros.’ Batman vs. Superman movie to up the competition factor a little. It’s clear that Marvel has high hopes for Ant-Man, which Wright co-wrote with Joe Cornish. A bankable star such as Gordon-Levitt or Rudd would certainly improve Ant-Man‘s box office chances, so maybe this one isn’t that far off from the truth.Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for all news updates related to the world of geek.
