Third X-Files movie in the offing?
Simon Brew
The creators and stars of The X-Files are keen to see a third cinematic adventure for Mulder and Scully, it seems...
Speaking in the midst of promotional work for the new movie, The X-Files: I Want To Believe, David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Chris Carter have all admitted that they’d like to see a third big screen outing for Mulder and Scully.
Reportedly, the ending for the new film has been constructed – unsurprisingly – in such a way that would allow a further sequel, although much hinges on the performance of the second film at the box office. Fight The Future made the best part of $90m at the US box office, and while I Want To Believe isn’t expected to match that, a solid $60-70m take, backed up with good worldwide grosses could be just the ticket to greenlight a further instalment.
Given that the film is likely to do well when it hits DVD and Blu-ray as well, hopes abound for another film. Things should be a little clearer the other side of the weekend, when the opening weekend numbers from the States arrive…
The X-Files: I Want To Believe hits UK cinemas on 1st August 2008.
