Voltron: What’s Up With Keith’s Wolf?

In season six of Voltron, Keith ended up with a wolf. The producers reveal why and it'll make your heart melt.

In the Voltron season 6 episode, “Razor’s Edge” Keith and his mother Krolia find themselves in a time warp of sorts where Keith befriends an alien wolf creature. While of course adorable, many fans were wondering just where the hell it came from and what purpose it might play in the show.

Executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos has, as he jokingly refers to it, a very superficial reason.

“I wanted Keith to have a really cool wolf.”

Digging deepeer Dos Santos says that the Voltron behind the scenes team wanted to give Keith, a lone wolf himself, “something that he could have an affinity for that could be like his role dog.”

Fellow executive producer Lauren Montgomery adds that, “Keith, being a man of few words, you give him a partner that just appreciates him and doesn’t require him to talk. It’s just a good match for Keith to have the animal companion versus having the human sidekick that he’s gotta be the straight man for.”

“It’s not gonna pass judgment on his lone wolf attitude,” Dos Santos adds. “It’s gonna be like, ‘Yeah, man. We’re kindred spirits.’”

Montgomery also points that the wolf fits his need for companionship, but also Keith’s “need for silence.”

And of course, as Dos Santos lovingly and simply explains, “he rescued it when it was a really cute puppy.”

“He’s a hero, god dangit” Montgomery quickly adds.

Both producers are tight lipped about whether we’ll see more of the wolf in the future but fans “can assume” it’ll be back.
