Doctor Who Is Gonna Fix It

Chris presents this Doctor Who related earworm that is the greatest song you’ve never heard before. So much fiddle!

Now that the Doctor Who 50th anniversary celebrations are winding down, it’s understandable if you are feeling some pangs of post-Timelord depression. Fortunately, we can help in the form of the song called "Doctor Who Is Gonna Fix It" by the obscure Australian country pop outfit/spellcheck nightmare Bullamakanka. It’s a cheesy – and frankly  glorious – ode to everybody’s favorite Gallifreyan that sounds like the Brundlefly-esque fusion of Dexy’s Midnight Runners and Mumford and Sons. So, you know, awesome.

While the song contains lyrical mouthfuls like "a painted blue policeman's booth that when inside the doors a vast interior complex defies dimensional laws," it more than makes up for any melodic missteps with a jaw-dropping low tech video that features production values nearly on par with the series it is paying homage to. Seriously, the Daleks featured here are way cooler than those included in the video for the best known Doctor Who jam, The Timelords’ "Doctorin' the Tardis!"

Bonus points go to the lead singer here for dressing in the Fourth Doctor's trademark scarf. Look out ladies!

According to the definitive source of all things Who music-related, The Millennium Effect, "Doctor Who Is Gonna Fix It" was released as a single in November of 1983. It didn't make much of an impact initially, but thanks to the wonders of the Internet it lives on...making your playlists that much cooler in the process.

The fact that this isn't as widely known as other sci-fi novelty songs of the era like those performed by Marvin the Paranoid Android is a wrong that all of the Doctors should team-up for to right. Hey, that's a better storyline than the Doctor avoiding getting shot by having a giant robot doppelganger of himself do it instead.
