The CW drops Wonder Woman series, Amazon

Diana of Themyscira won't be coming to The CW in Wonder Woman origins series, Amazon, after all...

In news that comes as little surprise to anyone who's followed the bumpy development of The CW's Wonder Woman 'the teen years' project from delay to indefinite shelving, Amazon has officially been dropped by the network.

Put on pause last July while, according to network bosses, the script was fine-tuned, the small screen Wonder Woman vehicle is now officially dead at The CW.

"We did not go forward with it", said CW president Mark Pedowitz at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. Though that's not to say that if the right script came along, it couldn't still be a possibility. "It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow, and we're being very careful with Flash. These are iconic characters, so we're going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit."

Amazon joins NBC's failed 2011 Wonder Woman pilot, which had Adrienne Palicki in the title role, on the TV junk pile. Cinema, however, appears to be having more luck with the character, as Gal Gadot's forthcoming incarnation in Batman Vs. Superman suggests.

Well she deserves to be on the big screen, so this good.

Good thing. If Wonder Woman ever comes to TV (again), I want her to be full-on and proper Wonder Woman, and not another version of Smallville's Superman (no offense to Smallville, I quite like it). Arrow is evidence enough that it's better to see a show about superheroes doing actual superhero-ing.

I really can't understand why they're having so many problems with Wonder Woman when the DCAU absolutely nailed the character back in Justice League. There's a 60 second scene at the beginning of an episode called "This Little Piggy" which is just her and Batman talking on a stakeout that encapsulates everything you need to make her work. A desire to explore this very different world, a proper sense of humour and a no-nonsense reminder that she is not someone to mess with.
Great, wonderful, just give us that character over the course of a movie, easy!
