Nic Pizzolatto attempts to remove pressure on True Detective season 2...

As we mentioned earlier this week, casting the lead investigators for the second season of True Detective is a hugely difficult task after the success of the original. If the reaction to the strongly rumoured casting of Vince Vaughn as the villain is anything to go by, fans of the show are pretty vocal too.

This means there’s plenty of pressure on creator Nic Pizzolatto to deliver the goods with the show’s sohphomore season. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Pizzolatto responded with an attempt to dampen the hype.

Reacting to HBO’s Michael Lombardo’s potentially unhelpful script praise, Pizzolatto explained that “as a creator, you always have one eye on the back of the room, where you know they're loading their guns and building your gallows.”

"You almost feel like issuing a disclaimer: 'This show will not change your life,” he added, seemingly attempting to alleviate some of the pressure on the show.

Whether or not this technique will work remains to be seen – True Detective season one was a televisual event which had loads of viewers permanently stuck on the edge of their seats, so expectations are bound to sky-rocket for the follow-up. Er, we might not have been much help there, Nic.
