True Blood season 7 will be its last, HBO has confirmed...

HBO has announced that it's calling time on its long-running hit True Blood, with season 7 set to be the last. Season 7 will screen in 2014.

The final season of the show will run for ten episodes, and will screen in its usual summer slot. The news isn't a massive surprise, and comes off the back of a mixed response to the just-finished season six. Ratings fell for the last season too, and that may well have been a factor in HBO's decision.

That said, it's been a significant hit for HBO, and it's endured where many others have stumbled. To say it's been cancelled would be doing True Blood a massive disservice. Instead, it feels as though this is one show that might just be arriving at its natural endpoint instead. Brian Buckner, who replaced show creator Alan Ball as showrunner from season six, will steer True Blood through its final run.
