Torchwood series 3 details revealed
We're definitely set for a shorter run of Torchwood in 2009. This and more details on the next series right here...
Details of Torchwood’s third series have finally been confirmed, and as speculated, Russell T Davies and his team are doing something a little bit different.
In line with the truncating of Doctor Who output from Cardiff next year, for its third run, Torchwood is down to just five episodes. But interestingly, they’re all going to be run across one week.
Filming on the series starts today, and it’s all being directed by Euros Lyn. Lyn recently helmed the Steven Moffat two-parter from the last series of Doctor Who, and also directed episodes such as The Girl In The Fireplace and The Runaway Bride. The five-episode run will mark his Torchwood debut. Among the writers this season will be James Moran, a talented chap who we interviewed in some detail here.
We also now know the name for the series, which will be Children Of Earth. It’s also known too that John Barrowman will be returning as Captain Jack Harkness, although whether Freema Agyeman’s Martha Jones will also be appearing is currently subject to speculation (given her filming commitments elsewhere). James Marsters is believed to be back, though.
Finally, for the first time too, Torchwood will be going out on BBC One, which means that each season of the show will have premiered on a different TV channel.
As more details emerge, we’ll have them for you here. And it’ll be fascinating to see how this experiment works when Torchwood series three hits our screens in the Spring…
