Top 10 TV Title Sequences Of All Time: the winner

Top 10 Martin Anderson 28 Sep 2007 - 10:22
Thunderbird 2 on its way to pick up our award...

Get arguing now: Martin awards first place in the best title sequences of all time to the antics of Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds...

1: Thunderbirds (1965 – 66)

Five…(DAH!)..FOUR! (DAH) THREE! (DAH) TWO! (DAAHH) ONE! Thunderbirds are GO!

With a great surname and great title sequences, Gerry Anderson pulls out all the stops to get us fired-up about a bunch of puppets who don’t like walking anywhere. Though Barry Gray’s subsequent main theme-tune itself is heroic, melodic and has nearly as many moods and chapters as John Williams’s score for Superman, it’s the initial episode-specific rush of adrenaline that shoots Thunderbirds to the top. The score crashes rapid-fire out of the screen as all the very best bits of the following adventure are trotted out in a fusillade of dazzling edits. It’s fab (FAB, surely? - Ed).

Editor's note: if you want a contrast of just how far Hollywood missed the plot with their movie version of 2004, then contrast that clip above with the trailer for the film...
