John Wesley Shipp's role in The Flash revealed
We knew former Flash John Wesley Shipp was to cameo in the new series, but now he's playing a recurring character...
The 'blink and you'll miss them' cameo, perfected of course by Stan Lee, is a stalwart of comic book movies and shows. Writers, graphic artists, voice-over performers and actors with links to the source material have popped up in the background of multiple superhero scenes as Easter eggs for the eagle-eyed.
John Wesley Shipp's forthcoming appearance in The Flash, The CW's new Arrow spin-off, was originally advertised as just such a cameo, but now it's been announced he's going to be a much more frequent presence in the new series.
Shipp, who played the titular character in the 1990s Flash series, will portray Dr Henry Allen, father to Barry, and a key part of The Flash's origin story in the show. The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti has praised Shipp's "fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot", adding "we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes."
