John Wesley Shipp's role in The Flash revealed

We knew former Flash John Wesley Shipp was to cameo in the new series, but now he's playing a recurring character...

The 'blink and you'll miss them' cameo, perfected of course by Stan Lee, is a stalwart of comic book movies and shows. Writers, graphic artists, voice-over performers and actors with links to the source material have popped up in the background of multiple superhero scenes as Easter eggs for the eagle-eyed.

John Wesley Shipp's forthcoming appearance in The Flash, The CW's new Arrow spin-off, was originally advertised as just such a cameo, but now it's been announced he's going to be a much more frequent presence in the new series.

Shipp, who played the titular character in the 1990s Flash series, will portray Dr Henry Allen, father to Barry, and a key part of The Flash's origin story in the show. The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti has praised Shipp's "fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot", adding "we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes."

I remember as a kid being so excited to watch the first episode of the original Flash TV series, I ran so fast I fell down the stairs at home! ; ) Glad to see John Wesley Shipp getting more than just a cameo in the new series. I'll definitely check this out.

I used to run around the playground pretending I was KITT, jumping obstacles when engaging my pretend turbo boost.

If it's anything like Arrow they are onto a winner. Started off fairly non-plussed, but just watched the season finale last night, and boy do CW build an epic finale - it's what a superhero show on TV should be. Plus, the extended trailer for Flash looked stunning. Just hope it lives up to it's hype!

Now this is one comic book universe series I am looking forward to. I predict this will be the best of the new season bunch. Carter is only a short run so it's safe but Gotham will be cancelled before the end of season 1, after all it's on Fox!
