First pitched at San Diego Comic-Con, Cupcakery Of Doom is now a reality…

Writer-cartoonist Trevor Reece is the first to get his show picked up by Nickelodeon after they accepted over a hundred pitches at July’s San Diego Comic Con.

His show, the charmingly titled The Cupcakery Of Doom, has a bit of a Pinky And The Brain vibe, focusing on a bear and a mouse seeking world domination. The concept will now be developed into an animated short by Nickelodeon with a full series order presumably depending on the success of the short.

Jenna Boyd, Nickelodeon’s Senior Vice President of Animation Development, explained that “We loved Trevor’s clever angle and adorable characters, but overall, Cupcakery just made us laugh.”

She added that “it was a grueling and gratifying three-day open call, and everyone who pitched us was talented and passionate,” before hinting that Trevor’s isn’t the only idea they’ve picked up.

It’s great to see a convention helping aspiring talent find work. We’d certainly be happy to report more stories like this in the future. More on Cupcakery as we hear it.
