Summer Heights High spin-off coming to BBC Three
Chris Lilley's Australian comedy Summer Heights High is returning to BBC Three in the form of a Ja'mie King spin-off...
Ja'mie: Private School Girl, a six-part series starring Chris Lilley's monstrously self-absorbed Summer Heights High and We Can Be Heroes mockumentary character Ja'mie King, is coming to BBC Three later this year.
Introduced as one of Lilley's potential 'Australians of the Year' in 2005's We Can Be Heroes, rich schoolgirl Ja'mie returned in Summer Heights High as a private school exchange student. The new series sees her in her natural habitat, ruling the corridors of Hillford Girls Grammar School during the last few weeks of her time there.
Alongside Jonah Takalua - whose school-leaving made for a surprisingly poignant moment in Summer Heights High - Lilley's role as Ja'mie was a highlight of the 2007 show. Whether there's enough scope in her character to fill an entire spin-off series we'll have to wait and see, but anything that means more of Chris Lilley on the BBC (ABC TV in Australia and HBO in the US) is good news in our books.
