David Tennant voices an ancient droid in this weekend's episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars...

Here's a geek telly Venn diagram overlap for you: Doctor Who and the Star Wars franchise, together in one neat little clip. The Tenth Doctor has followed in the footsteps of Simon Pegg and voiced a cameo role in animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In the episode, A Test of Strength, Tennant plays "Huyang, an ancient droid in the service of the Jedi Order, whose sole task in life has been overseeing the construction of lightsabers", according to Clone Wars showrunner David Feloni, who also told IGN "When I heard the Doctor himself, David Tennant, was a fan of Star Wars I knew I had to find a way to get in contact with him to see if he would perform on The Clone Wars."

Find a way he did, and here's the clip from this weekend's episode to prove it...

Anyone else search the light saber handles for tens sonic screwdriver? Oh...just me then...

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! (And I'm first!)

Now that you have, I will too. Cheers, buddy

This. Is. Brilliant!

Love it!

Ollivander, but with lightsabers :D

As awesome as this is, am I the only finding the fact that it's DT's voice really distracting?

Where is his real accent? he's doing it as the doctor!

Nope, me too. Having seen this, there are two things i would like the Goddess of Geekdom to provide, if it's within her powers: 1) the footage of DT recording this - I imagine the glee on his face would be priceless; 2) more DT in the 50th anniversary of DW - I'd forgotten how great his Doctor speeches could be...

Could do a lot worse than giving him a part on new wars.

For some reason, this by itself has gotten me excited about Clone Wars again, in a way that Darth Maul coming back somehow couldn't. Excellent work, and also cool to see that David's fine with having his voice modified a bit...
