Has Steven Moffat explained the ending of Sherlock series 2?
Steven Moffat has offered up a meaty clue as to how Sherlock Holmes survived his fall at the end of series 2...
Speaking to Frank Skinner and Fred MacAulay at an Ad-Lib Comedy event as part of the Edinburgh Fringe yesterday, Steven Moffat went further than he has before when asked how Sherlock Holmes survived his hospital-top fall at the end of series two:
"He cunningly avoided the pavement - that really is the only way to avoid dying. There's only a limited number of ways he can do this. He's got to interrupt his fall before he hits the pavement."
On previous occasions, Moffat has suggested that a clue hidden in plain sight was the key to Sherlock surviving the fall, and that no trickery will be pulled on the audience; all of the answers are right there in the episode, he assures us.
Avoiding the pavement? Unless it wasn't his body we saw falling (and Moffat does say "interrupt his fall"), that's a hefty tick in the rubbish truck theory, we'd have thought...
