Sherlock's Louise Brealey joins Ripper Street series 3
Sherlock and Casualty actress Louise Brealey joins Ripper Street series 3 in the role of a Victorian doctor...
Some actors can't escape the thin blue line, repeatedly turning up on screen as sergeant this and detective that. For Sherlock and Casualty's Loo Brealey, it's the long white coat (on television at least - in real life Brealey's also a fab playwright and journalist). After playing staff nurse Roxanne Bird in Casualty, the actress went on to play pathologist Molly Hooper in Sherlock, the role for which she's currently best known.
Next for Brealey is the role of a trailblazing Victorian doctor in Ripper Street series three. Brealey told the Radio Times, "I’m playing one of the first women doctors. I’m really excited because I did history at university and I love a bit of research. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson blazed the trail in the 1870s and in the intervening decade or so a few extremely intrepid and unusual women started learning to be doctors themselves."
Ripper Street, revived by Amazon Prime Instant Video after its BBC cancellation, is currently filming its third series in Dublin.
