Cobie Smulders in "definite talks" for Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agent Maria Hill could well be appearing in Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. alongside Agent Coulson...

On the press circuit for the latest Nicholas Sparks weepie, Safe Haven (mysterious girl/dark secret/smalltown America/love is the only safe haven etc), Cobie Smulders was pressed on her involvement in forthcoming Marvel projects Captain America: The Winter SoldierThe Avengers 2 and ABC production, Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D.

As we know, Smulders, who played integral S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in The Avengers, is confirmed to be reprising the role for the Captain America sequel which is due to start filming in late spring, and will almost certainly be back for 2015's The Avengers 2. What about a small screen appearance for Hill though?

According to Smulders, the planned schedule for Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., currently filming its pilot episode, would mesh with the actress' work on sitcom How I Met Your Mother. "The commitments [to HIMYM] don't affect it. And I can't really say, but there are definite talks about it."

"Definite talks" is more than Samuel L. Jackson was willing to confirm in late 2012, but if S.H.I.E.L.D. receives a season order (something of a foregone conclusion to hear ABC boss Paul Lee tell it), we'd be mightily surprised if both Fury and Hill don't make an appearance.

How I Met Your Mother was recently renewed for a ninth season and I would expect her involvement in the first season of SHIELD to just be a few guest appearances. But maybe somewhere down the line, if it's successful...

I hope she makes a few appearances in the series, to tighten the connection to the films (as if that is really needed.)

On another topic, and I'm only going in to this because of the screenshot above, the connection of The Amazing Spider-Man and the MCU. Having seen the movie finaly, I've seen some stuff in TASM that makes sense in the MCU:

- The computer interfaces of Oscorp and SHIELD (see screenshot) look alike -> same tech.

- Aren't there a lot of building cranes in Manhattan, New York? Would make sense after the Battle of New York in The Avengers.

- And of course the fact that Sony and Disney/Marvel had a deal to incorporate the Oscorp Tower in The Avengers skyline.

Maybe it's just wishfull thinking, but it would be great!

I really hope that the ninth season of How I Met Your Mother is the last. I am a fan but I'm getting a bit tired of Ted constantly trying to go out with Robin and always missing the woman he's meant to go out with. It's similar to the Ross/Rachael thing from Friends, it was great in the beginning but for nine seasons it's getting tiresome. Also it would be nice for us, the audience, and for Cobie Smulders to see her play a new character as playing the same character has probably got tiresome and I'd think she'd want to do something different.

Well, in that case I have good news for you. The final of Season 8 of HIMYM will reveal the Mother. (This is not a spoiler by the way, because they are teasing this for two seasons.) Season 9 will probably go into the dating fase and the pre-wedding fase of Ted and the Mother. And as I recall Robin has yet to go on a worldtrip (with Barney?), so they can write her off for some time making more time open for SHIELD.

Hey Sean,

That's really good news, I might actually watch season nine of HIMYM. I am a fan of the show but it has being crying out for a major change in the set-up of the show for while and introducing The Mother is the most logical step that they can take. I was worried that the last episode ever would have Ted meet The Mother and that would be the end. I like the idea of her being introduced at the end of season 8 and then we get to find out what makes her a better match for Ted than Robin, Stella, Victoria or Zoey. Hopefully she still plays bass guitar and paints pictures of Robots playing football.

To your last sentence: Yes. Yes she does play bass guitar (on Barney and Robin's wedding) and paints pictures of Robots playing football and has a yellow umbrella.

Futher, there are/where three scenarios for HIMYM as of Season 8.
- Season 8 is the end. (Defunct)
- Season 8 is the last for HIMYM, but will be replaced with How I Met Your Father.
- HIMYM carries on into Season 9 with the Mother.
