Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot now filming

ABC has high hopes for Joss Whedon's new Avengers-universe series, currently filming its pilot episode...

Are you ready for the most exciting picture of a utility vehicle you've seen since yesterday's Mad Max 4 extravaganza? Then be our guest:

Yes, the pilot for Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. has swung into production, and once in the can, will be fast-tracked to the top of ABC's pile according to network boss Paul Lee. There was very little bet-hedging going on when Lee enthusiastically discussed the new Marvel/ABC co-venture with press just over a week ago, and plenty of indication that the pilot is more or less a formality in his eyes.

Episode one is reported to be set in the aftermath of the New York battle that closed The Avengers, and features latecomer Chloe Bennet as superhero-obsessed Skye, stalwart Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson (before you ask, we don't know how they've wangled that chronology-wise), Iain De Caestecker as techy Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as scientific whizzkid Simmons and Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May. Samuel L Jackson also hasn't ruled out making an appearance as Nick Fury.

The earliest we could see the fruits of Whedon's labour is this autumn, which would be a speedy turnaround from pitch to screen, but a necessary one to fit around the writer/director's The Avengers 2 schedule.

I don't care how Coulson returns, they could say a wizard did it and I'd be happy.

I recon they'll simply say that Fury told the Avengers he was dead simply to, "give them that push." In reality, he was badly injured but has recovered, more determined than ever. Maybe he'll have a cameo in Iron Man 3 to explain this.

I hope so because then he could be in The Avengers 2!

A .......'Strange' wizard perhaps? ........................... no probably not, but it's a nice thought.

Not to mention IM3... I'm hoping for an end-of-credits scene with Agent Coulson, to whet the appetite of the audience for the S.H.I.E.L.D. series. Not that mine needs any whetting! Seriously, as long as Coulson's in the series, I'll watch it :)

And it will be cancelled after the first season

we've had the helicarrier in the movie, hopefully there'll be some flying sports cars in the series!

I love how marvel simply didn't waste any time in making this projects. We have great solo movies, a great ensemble movie and now a tv show. And with the same people behind it. Sometimes this much stuff goingo on could jeopardize the quality, but here it's all a nerd extravaganza. Learn, DC comics, and give us more movies.

Really. Really. Excited.
