Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. news round-up
More casting announced for Joss Whedon's Marvel TV show, and will Nick Fury be making a cameo?
The last time we checked in with Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., two box-fresh new agents had joined the show, in the form of young UK actors Elizabeth Henstridge (as "science-whiz" Gemma Simmons) and The Fades' Iain de Caestecker (as "tech guru" Leo Fitz). Since then, a few more developments have taken place, which we've rounded up below for those keeping an eye on Joss Whedon's 2013 return to the small screen.
First up is the casting of Nashville's Chloe Bennet as the latest regular cast-member. Bennet is to play a character named Skye, a superhero-obsessed woman, described by The Hollywood Reporter as confident, edgy, and able to "out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature."
To sum up the cast so far, Bennet is joining Clark Gregg, who's returning as Agent Coulson, De Caestecker as Fitz, Henstridge as Simmons and Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May.
Bigger news perhaps is that Nick Fury actor Samuel L Jackson hasn't ruled out appearing on the show in some form, telling MTV, "I don't know. I keep hearing about it, and I haven't talked to Joss about it [...] But in my mind, I would tend to think that he would, if nothing else, be like Charlie in Charlie's Angels. At least be the voice!"
In terms of when to expect Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., expected to begin filming in January, on our screens, Jeph Loeb, the head of Marvel TV, had these enthusiastically punctuated things to say: "Well...we have a little pilot for television that you might have heard about called Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. co-written, directed, and Executive Produced by none other than Joss Whedon! Working with Joss, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell on the show is a blast! And bringing in Clark Gregg to play Agent Phil Coulson - the best! Hopefully we will be on in the Fall of 2013 on ABC!"
We'll keep you posted as soon as we hear more.
