Young British actors Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker have joined the cast of Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D...

The cast of Joss Whedon's new Avengers-universe series for ABC, Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., has rounded out nicely with the addition of two hip young British gunslingers - Iain De Caestecker (The Fades) and Elizabeth Henstridge (er, Hollyoaks) as agents Leo Fitz and Gemma Simmons respectively.

The characters are described by The Hollywood Reporter as a prodigious but bickering pair comprising "technology guru" Fitz and "science whiz" Simmons. Whether Fitz and Simmons (sounds like a Kensington cheesemonger doesn't it?) are to be British or if the duo will be joining the many, many UK actors who've loosened their vowels to go native on a US TV show is yet to be confirmed.

Henstridge and De Caestecker join the already-cast Clark Gregg and Ming-Na, whose appearance as Agents Coulson and May was confirmed last month. We'll bring you more on Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. as we have it.
