Patton Oswalt is to play Howling Commando member Agent Eric Koenig in Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Accepting a guest role in Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn't, we'd imagine, a tough decision for Patton Oswalt, an actor/comedian who's made no secret of his comic book love over the years.

Oswalt is to play Agent Eric Koenig in a fothcoming episode, whose first appearance was made in Sgt. Fury And The Howling Commandos issue number 27. It's the actor/comedian's second involvement with a Whedon-led project, after his role as Joel Mynor in a couple of episodes of Dollhouse.

Since the end of long-running sitcom King Of Queens, Oswalt has made guest appearances in a range of cult comedy hits, from Flight Of The Conchords, to CommunityThe Venture Bros, Portlandia and more. Arguably one of his best performances though, is in Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody's Young Adult, a film well worth seeking out if you missed it at the time. Unarguably Oswalt's most popular performance was as the voice of chef rat Remy in Pixar's Ratatouille, another gem.

I'm not the biggest fan of Oswalt, although I still need to see young adult but I think Shield has done well with its guest stars. It was great so see Jamie Alexander who has been very underused in the Thor films to get a big role on the film. I also loved Bill Paxton's appearance, who I really wanted to see run around screaming "We're all going to die, this isn't happening, its game over man."

I would've been sceptical over this bit of casting if I hadn't seen his excellent turn in 'Justified' last season. Kid knows how to take a punch.

Sorry. This won't make me start watching the terrible show again. One wonders what they will do next to attract the dwindling audience & satisfy critics. . .

I've never known who he is, but have always loved Ratatouille, and always regarded King of Queens as a bit rubbish. But eh, that's just me. I know Teh Internetz loves him.

Lol my favourite role of his was in that Badman skit where he teaches Batman about death
