Marvel considering Agent Peggy Carter TV series?

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Agent Peggy Carter could be coming to television with her own TV series...

For those frustrated at the lack of female-led comic book movies during the current glut, television may provide some solace. In much the same way that Item 47 heralded the arrival of Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Peggy Carter one-shot from the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray (already out here in the UK, but coming to the US on the 24th of September) could presage a forthcoming TV series for the 1940s Marvel character.

The report comes from Deadline, who suggest that Marvel is developing a concept for an Agent Peggy Carter TV show following the character's travails as part of the newly formed S.H.I.E.L.D. in the forties. It's all rumour at present of course and very much in the zygotic stages even if it should prove to be more than just scuttlebutt.

With the Wonder Woman prequel Amazon currently on pause, there's certainly a gap in the market for a female-led action series. An Agent Carter Marvel spin-off could be just the ticket, especially if Hayley Atwell can be persuaded to continue in the role...

I can think of two reasons I'd watch this....

Ration books and Bud Flanagan?

Depends, will he be singing Who do you think you are kidding Mr Hitler at every opportunity?

Tonally,i suppose they would be attempting something in the style of the Indiana Jones adventures with a period Spy drama. It could work as a companion piece to Agents Of SHIELD and would feature the establishment of SHIELD,Howard Stark and HYDRAs attempts at world domination.I think it would be sensible to start with a shorter run of 11 episodes so Hayley has time to do some theatre work or other projects to encourage her to continue playing the character and see how it's recieved.

Schwing ! She's a BABE ! ( how 90's of me ).
I'm sure the show will be fine too.

I don't think there's really a need for a spin off TV show like this but I would like more flashbacks or One-Shots;

I think that since Howard Stark requests Peggy to run S.H.I.E.L.D with him, and it seems 'Dum Dum' Dugan and Colonel Phillips are still involved, it is conceivable that any or all of these characters could reappear any time that S.H.I.E.L.D is shown from mid-40's onward e.g. a flashback in the 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' TV show, or if Ant-Man retains its rumoured 1960's setting, or if they ever made a Nick Fury origin movie etc.

Also, since Nick Fury states that he knew Howard he could also appear in any flashback scenes (a 20-something year old Nick Fury from roughly the late 1960's/early 1970's) even if they never make his solo origin film.

If Marvel do decide to really embrace the Peggy Carter idea they could do a retro SH.I.E.L.D TV show with perhaps Howard Stark, Mrs Stark, original Jarvis, Dum Dum, Chester Phillips, Peggy Carter – and depending what decade they set it in (a Cold War film?) even Nick Fury and or Hank Pym...

Yes please! Haven't seen the short yet but I love me some Peggy Carter.

Seems like they are just trying to squeeze a female orientated project into the mix without having much idea who or why. Surely there are better female "heroes" in the Marvel universe to fly the flag?

This sounds quite interesting. At the very least they could work as some flashback 'holiday specials' for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D?

Oooh, I like that idea.

Especially if they make this in 3DD.... Sorry I meant 3D

I prefer that idea :)

There will inevitably be a break during the broadcast of the main series so having a special to fill in the gap, like Doctor Who, would be nice and even better if it tied in with the present day storyline :)

It would be cool. The one shot is fun and hayley atwell is great in the role. Peggy was a great character in CATFA. When they announced shield I thought it would be cool if they did flashback episodes with Peggy and the howling commandos as the first agents or as specials or a mini series. they could even connect the plots to modern storylines in shield somehow.

love this idea, I thought she was the best thing about Captain America and the short film on the Iron Man 3 disk is thoroughly entertaining, doubt it will go ahead but saying that Marvel have consistently taken risks and they've paid off so far hopefully they could get Tommy Lee Jones to return too he was great.

We definitely need to see more of Hayley Atwell, she was one of the best bits of Captain America

I like this idea.

If Whedon's involved, I'm on board.

I hate to be Mr Picky Bringdown and all - but Peggie Carter COULDN'T have been an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. - at least not in the time period of the show. The organization was created by the UN, which itself wasn't established until post WWII.

Really looking forward to the show, though.

Another question - will The Howling Commands show up? Or Tony Stark's father?

"Men in 'Quite Happy to See Hayley Atwell Just Reading from Phone Directory Frankly' Shocker!"

Why? On the basis that as soon as WWII ended she ceased to exist? Pretty sure people found other jobs with (even with new) companies after the war finished.

You've a point I suppose - if the show takes place during the Cold War.
