Gillian Anderson joins NBC's Hannibal
Scully (aka Gillian Anderson) is to play Dr Lecter's psychiatrist in Bryan Fuller's new Hannibal series...
We're keeping tabs on NBC's Hannibal for a couple of reasons. The first is the involvement of Bryan Fuller, of Voyager, Heroes, and Pushing Daisies fame, and the second is the casting of Dane Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, The Hunt), an actor we'd wager is well-placed to convey the dark brilliance of Thomas Harris' antihero.
Number three on that list is the news that Gillian Anderson has joined the show in the role of Lecter's psychiatrist (now there's a patient that makes Tony Soprano look like a walk in the park). Anderson will be appearing alongside Laurence Fishburne and Hugh Dancy, who play the FBI agents who turn to Lecter for help in tracking a serial killer.
Expected to debut in 2013, the official synopsis for the thirteen-episode series is below:
Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham's unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone - even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he's pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there's no villain they can't catch. If Will only knew...
