Could Mr Freeze be coming to Gotham?

Director Danny Cannon is pitching for Mr Freeze to join the cast of Gotham's DC villains...

Speaking to Hitfix, Gotham director Danny Cannon has revealed that he's pushing for a certain icy villain to join the ranks of the Penguin, the Riddler, Catwoman and Poison Ivy in the new Fox comic book crime drama.

"I have a big pitch with Bruno about the Mr Freeze character, whose origins are uncertain. If I can win Geoff Johns over and if I can win Bruno over, then I look forward to the moment where that character can be realized", Cannon told Daniel Fienberg.

Those origins, first introduced in Batman: The Animated Series and now accepted as canon, involve the tragic tale of the character's terminally ill wife, Nora, being cryogenically frozen. As a Batman prequel that kicks off with young Bruce Wayne's inciting superhero incident and includes a teenage Selina Kyle, it would be characteristic for Gotham to reach even further back into the villain's past, were he to appear.

The character - who also goes by the moniker Dr Victor Fries - was er, memorably played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1997's Batman & Robin, as well as by numerous actors in the 1960s Batman TV series. Is he at the top of your wishlist for Gotham villains?

Gotham starts on Fox in the US this autumn.

He's paying his way through Medical School by working at McDonnalds... "Do you want FRIES with that?" (Thankyouuu! Thankyou very much! I'm here all week! Twice on Saturdays... ;D)

Didn't realise the he was not from the comics. Batman TAS was brilliant, I can't believe that Warner don't sell it as a box set - I would buy it in a heart beat.

He did appear in the comics first but they changed his origin for the TAS and that's the one that become cannon.

Well the changed his origin again with the new 52. Instead of being married to Nora, he just fell in love with her frozen corpse and is married to her... IN HIS HEAD.

Arnold, previous to his own realization that he was the king of one liners, would have been perfect. He WAS perfect. His terminator-ness sold my ticket, but all Arnold remembered from those 2 films was "hasta la vista, baby". It wasn't until I watched the movie myself that I realized Arnold was frozen in time. One pun would have been ice. Just one. So I had to grade that movie below a zero, and don't ask me how low, Kelvin, cuz it's LOW. You know it's sad when a huge Arnold fan looks at Gotham and says "John Lithgow would nail it". That weenie could nail it. Just like Arnold could have. Idiot.

Bruce Forsyth should play him and then he can use his famous catchprase, "Ice to see you, to see you ice."

Denzel as Malcolm x as Mr. Freeze:

WE didn't land on Plymouth ROCK, Plymouth ROCK, landed on ICE!

oh that is genuinely awful and terrible and i can't deal with that

Done right his is an awesome character - but I cannot see how outside of TAS he could work in the 'gritty' reality of Gotham.
