Game Of Thrones season 3 DVD & Blu-Ray release date

News Louisa Mellor 25 Jun 2013 - 07:20

US fans will be able to buy Game Of Thrones's third season on DVD and Blu-Ray from February the 18th 2014...

The length of time between a season of Game of Thrones concluding on HBO and Sky and arriving on DVD and Blu-Ray always feels a cruel and vast stretch to fans, and this year will be no different. February the 18th, 2014 is the date to mark on your calendar for the US DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download release of season three.

No UK release dates have been confirmed as yet, but if the same pattern is followed for season three as for one and two, we can expect the box-sets to arrive in shops two-three weeks after the US release, in the first week of March, 2014.

The twist this year for collectors is that HBO is running a 'choose the artwork' Facebook poll for the Special Edition Best Buy box-sets, in which fans can decide between the familiar Stark, Targaryen or Lannister sigils, Tyrion, Jon Snow, and Dany covers, or new sigils from Houses Tyrell, Baratheon, and Tully. See a preview of the proposed covers below and if you're moved to, visit the official Game of Thrones Facebook page to vote.

Bloody stupid, no wonder it is the most pirated show ever. Short of subscribing to Sky Atlantic, there are no legal ways of watching Game of Thrones in the UK unless you wait for 1 year. I tried streaming it from HBO - I was quite happy to pay top dollar for it but they won't stream outside the USA. I could not find a legal way to watch it and just it. They really are shooting themselves in the foot.

I’ve never really understood HBOs release policy or schedules? I’d assume that it’s
because the TV networks who buy their shows around the world have an option
to repeat once a programme’s initial run has finished. Surely HBO would
generate massive revenues from DVD sales if they capitalised on the feverish demand straight after a show’s first run than sitting on a release for 12 months? And **** Best Buy special editions!

That's way too far away! I want the DVD release date to be June 25! I'm going through some serious GoT withdrawal and reading Malazan isn't helping enough.

Similar to my feelings regarding Arrested Development season 4 - you can't get Netflix in Australia, so there's no legal way to watch it. What did they think would happen?

What the hell is wrong with HBO? No wonder this show gets pirated so much. Release at Christmas, make a packet. Release NOW make a packet.

Looks like I'll be pirating the 3rd series then.

I'd be happy to pay for it - extremely happy, like I've done with the first 2 series in recent weeks as I've only just got into it - but when you make consumers wait for nearly a year you're losing my money unfortunately. And they complain about piracy ...

HotSpot Shield is your friend for live US streaming. Free and legal, it provides you with a secure IP tunnel to the internet via a US server. And yup, bloody stupid.

Tully pride!

Not sure why but Blinkbox seem to get access a lot earlier than DVD release, its how i saw series 2. According to the site Season 3 hits Blinkbox on July 15th.

If this works, I owe you a pint. Been looking for a decent site like this for a while.

I think they use the release of their DVDs and Blu-rays as a way of promoting the upcoming season; that's why they release them so close to the premiere date. I'm inclined to agree with you. I think the wait is painful and someone should put this question to HBO. As far as I'm concerned, they should release it as soon as possible while it's still fresh in people's minds. I'd like to rewatch them right now, to be honest.

edit

It DOES seem odd they wait so long, I mean at this point its not like season 4 will need much promoting. Another question id like to ask HBO is WHERES THE SOPRANOS SEASONS 2-5 BLU RAY BOXSETS EH?.

Tesco's Blinkbox no-subscription streaming service get it in mid-July if you want to watch it legally in the UK.

Just get sky you whiny piss-head and don't pirate or you'll be like hitler but worse and with an eyepatch...scumbag minus the s

it is so imoprtant..because the TV networks who buy their shows around the world have an option
to repeat once a programme’s initial run has finished. Surely HBO would very nice.

Stupid release date, surely November is a good time(at the latest), maximize sales at christmas. And I hate having to wait longer for it's release over here in Uk when most of the cast is British and is filmed in Europe.

Would have been nice on that date as it was my birthday lol, I did get series 1 and 2 for my birthday so to get series 3 then would have been brilliant hehe, but HBO are idiots so alas, it didn't happen.
