Last-minute casting news for Game Of Thrones season 3
Game Of Thrones moves production to LA for the first time, to work around the inclusion of a new guest star...
Warning: contains a spoiler for Game of Thrones season three
Just sixty-two days from broadcast, you'd have thought that the cast for Game of Thrones' third season would be locked down by now, but no, a new er, performer has recently joined the HBO flagship show.
A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R.R Martin teased the new cast member last Thursday on his personal (not a) blog. Under a post titled "It's the pits" came the message "Son of Homer", quickly followed by elucidation: "You guys are smarter than the average bear, plainly. Yes, it's BART THE BEAR. Or rather, Bart the Second. The original Bart, that nine foot tall star of stage and screen, has departed for the great forest in the sky. So Jaime and Brienne get to play with his heir and namesake."
Little Bart the Bear - as Bart the Second is known - is an in-demand Alaskian Kodiak who is soon to add the fantasy series to his IMDb listings, which already include Zookeeper, We Bought a Zoo, and Doctor Dolittle 2. His scenes are to be filmed in L.A, which marks the first foray onto US soil for Game of Thrones, which is usually shot in Northern Ireland, Morocco, Iceland and Croatia.
Those who've read Martin's A Storm Of Swords will know precisely where, and how Little Bart will make his appearance. You can almost smell the blood and sweat...
Game of Thrones returns for its third season in the US on the 31st of March, and in the UK on the 1st of April.
