What Donald Glover is doing instead of Community season 5

Community's Donald Glover is moving away from Greendale to make a self-penned music-based comedy series with FX...

We'd barely put up the bunting for our 'Dan Harmon is back in charge' celebrations when it had to come straight down again to mourn the news that Donald Glover was stepping away from Community. The actor/writer/rapper behind Greendale's Troy Barnes will only appear in just five of the thirteen episodes of Community's fifth season, to free him up to pursue his music career as Childish Gambino.

Another project will also be taking up Glover's time, a self-penned comedy series based around the Atlanta music scene in development with FX. Glover is primed to write, executive produce and star in the tentatively titled series, Atlanta, based on his experiences as a musician.

Following its enormous and well-deserved success with similar auteur comedy series Louie, FX is thought to be providing the former 30 Rock writer with the freedom to combine the series with touring as Childish Gambino.
