Doctor Who series 8 world premiere in Cardiff

News Louisa Mellor 4 Jul 2014 - 15:50

On the 7th of August, some lucky people in Cardiff will be watching the first episode of Doctor Who series 8...

To mark the arrival of the new Doctor and kick off this August's Doctor Who global tour, the BBC is having a posh do on Thursday the 7th of August in Cardiff. Excitingly, said do will include a world premiere screening of Deep Breath, the "feature-length" Steven Moffat-written first episode of the new run.

In attendance at the red carpet event will be Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and Steven Moffat (well, it wouldn't be much of a Who party without them). BBC Wales Director Rhodri Talfan Davies said that "Doctor Who has been made in Wales for almost ten years - and we're so proud of its worldwide success", "It's a real thrill that the show's fans here in Wales will be the very first to see the new Doctor at this very special premiere screening."

Public tickets for the screening, which will take place at St David's Hall, Cardiff, become available from 10am on Monday the 7th of July. Call 029 2087 8444 or go online at www.stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk. to join the stampede. Godspeed you good people, and remember, no spoilers please...

Doctor Who series eight starts on BBC One on Saturday the 23rd of August.

This is a different screening from the traditional press junket about a fortnight before transmission, then? Nice to see it being held in Cardiff. I would imagine it will be sold out within seconds... Roll on August 23rd!

Would love to see this but I don't live anywhere near Cardiff! Aug 23 isn't too long away now. Still feel it's a tad early for what to me (growing up with Tom Baker's Doctor) is ostensibly an autumnal series. That said, The Dominators opened season six on Aug 10 1968... Terror of the Zygons appeared on Aug 30 1975 and the Leisure Hive began on Aug 30 1980. Destiny of the Daleks started on September 1st 1979 and - thirty three years to the day - Asylum of the Daleks was transmitted on September 1st 2012. Only 50 days to go folks!

It might technically be a world premiere but it sounds a bit overhyped to call it that. Oops, that's the series for you under SM. It's not a film and it would hardly be shown overseas before here.

Sounds like their very confident in their opening episode then! Showing it 2 and a bit weeks early and all that

All tickets sold out now. GRRRRR

Can't wait! Managed to get tickets!

Tickets sold out in under an hour. I live in Cardiff and just managed to get some.
