If the anniversary episode addresses the time war (as production pics seem to point toward), then Ecclestone is an obvious stepping off point. Bringing these episodes together says to me that they are planning to tie the nu-who era up with the 50th anniversary and move on with the next phase of the shows life.
The other part of this is that there are limitations of how the classic episodes were filmed. Apart from Spearhead From Space, all classic who episodes were filmed on tape and naturally have deteriorated in quality and it would be pointless converting them to hd as they would look no better than they are now. Spearhead (due to strike action) was filmed on film on location, allowing for an hd transfer -which they have done to great effect recently. Regardless of how many people are or are not interested in classic who - this is the reason, the available episodes are already on the market in the optimum format. The only thing that is lacking, is digital formats (i.e. iTunes - please sort this out BBC!)

Interesting.

That would involve Eccleston to not be self centered for five minutes...

Would be nice to see the BBC release a 1-4 boxset for people who already own Series 5-7 on bluray though...

do you know if the two animated episodes will be included 1) Infinite Quest 2) Dreamland

Aw can i not just purchase season 1 - 4 plus the last 4 specials to end it on bluray

not a fan of smith or moffats dr who

Don't own any DW on bluray so this was an expensive, but much wanted pre order.
I think it's massively overpriced coming it at £23.89 per season, but at least you get it ALL in one hit.
Lets just hope they do a decent job with the upscaling so there's no picture juddering or other horrible conversion errors.
It would have been a nice touch if the boxset came with a voucher for one more bluray disc that you could send away for after Xmas day that had the November 50th Anniversary episode and the Xmas day episode on to complete the collection.
November is going to be a chuffing expensive month, this DW boxset, Xbox one, PS4 and the obligatory games, and finally the Zelda strategy guide boxset.
Looks like I'm not buying any xmas pressies this year !

nope, he will be in The Day of the Doctor, aired on nov. 23, and i believe his regeneration will be on christmas day.

Is there a region 4 version of this
