BBC confirms Doctor Who Regeneration DVD set

A posh collector's book, featuring all nine of Doctor Who's regeneration stories, and more, will be released this June...

In this, the fiftieth anniversary year, there'll be no shortage of Doctor Who merchandise and memorabilia released to mark the occasion. Travel mugs, coins, teapots, prints, jigsaws... even (and this one is exciting for those occuping the overlap in the Venn diagram of people who love quizzing, tiny pieces of wedge-shaped plastic, and Doctor Who) a Who version of Trivial Pursuit.

This though, is one for the serious collectors. Regeneration is a limited edition book including six DVDs including The Caves of AndrozaniThe End of Time, and (trumpet fanfare) The Tenth Planet. All nine regeneration episodes are included, along with photography, and detailed accounts of each transition. The missing fourth episode of the First Doctor's regeneration story has been recreated in 2D animation, a clip from which you can see below courtesy of Doctor Who TV.

Here's a full list of the stories included in the DVD book: The Tenth Planet, The War Games, Planet of the Spiders, Logopolis, The Caves of Androzani, Time and the Rani, Doctor Who: The Movie, Bad Wolf and The Parting of the Ways, The End of Time. Watch the teaser trailer for the collection below.

The Regeneration collection will be released on the 24th of June only in the UK and is available to pre-order at the BBC shop, now.

So will "The Tenth Planet" be available separately at some point as I don't really want to buy the other stories (which I already own) just to get it.

Tenth Planet will be available individually but not until "late this year." Although I'm a bit miffed that possibly the most anticipated story release for years is getting released first in a box set not aimed at the core DW DVD buying market, some small consolation can be taken in the fact that this will be a story only release and the later stand alone DVD will contain special features. I've waited long enough for Tenth Planet, I can wait a little longer.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I think I can wait a little longer too as I doubt there's much in that book that I don't already know about the show.

Just a thought, but as someone who has watched the majority of the original series' of DW, and with a friend who has always wanted to watch them but never got around to it, these may be a good (spoiler filled, but good) way to briefly introduce someone to every Doctor in turn, like a brief run-through before you dive in at season one.

This is such a ripp off, why not package the post-Regeneration stories with it, seems Lkke a money making scam to me, because u know rightly that they will have a Newly regenerated Doctor episodes in another Box Set and charge u more money . Shower of b******rds. And btw ill be buying the boxset with Post-Regeneration episodes (if its ever made)

Would it not be better if The included the Post - Regeneration stories such The Spearhead from Space,Robot ,Doctor Who The Movie, Rose, The Christmas invasion, The Eleventh Hour and others I can't remember.

On one hand, yes, it would be nicer as a group, but on the other hand I tend to find that looking back at the first episode for any given doctor in hindsight, they aren't that great because the writers (and/or actors) haven't got a handle on the new character yet.

I think the BBC is taking a page from Paramount's Star Trek book (erm, box sets) and repackaging themed episodes together to squeeze out a few more bucks.

After viewing the above regeneration clip of the 1st Doctor into the 2nd .
I am greatly disapointed. As I know their is some orinigal footage of this that survived as I have seen it on You Tube . WHY didn't they include original footage as well as animation???

bar the eleventh hour, that was a great story.

I will be getting this and he separate tenth planet release latter this year. This box art is stunning!

Does the cover not look like the 11th Doctor regenerating? Are they trying to tell us something?

You can pre-order it at Amazon right now.

I don't see what. Matt Smith is in series eight next year.

does anyone know if there is a complete set of all the episodes dating back to 1 that i could buy???? i know they gave one away last year, so i wondering if i can buy one somewhere??
