Doctor Who: An Adventure In Space And Time casting complete

All the big names for Mark Gatiss' birth-of-Who docudrama have now been announced...

We brought you news last week that newcomer Claudia Grant was the official choice to play Carole Ann Ford in the BBC's forthcoming Doctor Who docudrama, An Adventure in Space and Time, and now the remaining roles have been filled.

First up is Jamie Glover (Waterloo Road, Holby City), the man brought in to fill William Russell's shoes, the actor who played Who companion and science teacher Ian Chesterton. Mr Glover, it's been announced, will have added pressure to pull off the part in style as William Russell himself will also be appearing in the docudrama.

Russell's character, about which nothing is known, goes by the name of Harry.

Ian Chesterton's colleague from the history department and fellow TARDIS companion, Barbara Wright, aka actress Jacqueline Hill is to be played by Jemma Powell, recently seen in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and UK horror The Seasoning House.

And finally, trailblazing composer Deliba Derbyshire, renowned for her arrangement of the Doctor Who theme music, is to be played by relative newcomer Sarah Winter.

That should conclude the An Adventure in Space and Time casting announcements for now. The one-off period drama is currently in production, and due to air as part of the BBC's celebrations for Doctor Who's fiftieth anniversary in November.

There Better Be More than just this. i hope i am not the only fan of modern day or classic who that feels the fans deserve something epic for the 50th anniversary. this is the best kept secret or its going to be a joke played on us. i have heard nothing other than this one off show. no more eps or when we will see season 8 return i feel the BBC is going to Fumble this big time i hope i am wrong.........................

So you haven't heard about the 50th Anniversary Special being filmed in the next few months? Don't expect any announcements or details. The BBC don't release information until it's time to... and there's still the second half of Series 7 not to be overshadowed.

I suspect there are probably a fair few more to come - if you've got Derbyshire then you have to have Grainer - and of course you'll then need Hodgson (and his mother's front door key!). You need Coburn to spot that police box and think "Hmmmm", and Wilson and Webber to create the bleedin' format with Newman...

And David Whitaker, we can't miss him out.

And that's before you even *start* on the idea of Nation and Cusick and all that jazz...

I accept that history will need to be stripped-down and streamlined for an effective drama, but there's still plenty more casting to come for this.

In answer to Dan, with Matt Smith's trip off to America imminent - for his new film, this now confirms that there will be no season 8 till next year. So with the big 50, all we are getting this year is, the remaining 8 episodes of season 7, the docudrama and the 50th anniversary story. No mention of a Christmas special either. Shame because the BBC could have done so much more being the 50th anniversary. Even the other two anniversary stories were longer in length, than just the 60 mins special we are having for this special. We could have at least had a build up to the anniversary by having season 8 starting at the end of August

Repeats of classic episodes please! From all doctors! Possibly a poll on the best episodes?
