Doctor Who: read an extract from Eoin Colfer's eshort

Read an extract from Eoin Colfer's First Doctor eshort, to be published on the 23rd of January...

Eoin Colfer's A Big Hand for the Doctor fiftieth anniversary eshort is the first of eleven short stories to be published monthly on iTunes and Amazon between now and the 23rd of November, each one written by a prominent children's author about a different Doctor.

Colfer's story kicks things off with a First Doctor tale, an extract of which has been released at The Guardian Children's Books page. The excerpt sees William Hartnell's Doctor in a rooftop confrontation with a barely articulate Soul Pirate, and can be read, here.

After what he did with the Hitchhiker's "franchise", I'd rather not...

Seems like there is quite a bit of emphasis on the Doctor's appearance in the extract (white hair, walking stick), almost distracting so actually. I hope the authors actually write stories that incorporate their Doctor's unique character, and not just try to make a book with a character called 'The Doctor' when he happened to look like Tom Baker (for example).

Colfer's a great pick for this project. He should write an episode.

Such a shame Douglas Adams is no longer with us. He would have been perfect for this.

12 months and only 11 Doctors...what if they'll add Twelve in December? Is this Moffat's game?

It's tricky to judge based on such a short extract but I thought that was pretty lousy to be honest. I don't need to be spoonfed the concept that somebody is talking about themselves in the third person and describing somebody by their appearance. And really what were those italics about?
A shame as I've read some of the Artemis Fowl books and thought them original, diverting and enjoyable

January to November is 11 months.
