John Barrowman talks Doctor Who

Captain Jack Harkness himself, John Barrowman, has been chatting about the future of Doctor Who. Plus, he still wants to return to the show…

As Torchwood: Miracle Day comes to an end in the UK this week, John Barrowman has been back in Britain, at the launch of Robinson Crusoe And The Caribbean Pirates. That’s the pantomime that he’s starring in this Christmas in Glasgow. Tickets are on sale now.

The conversation, unsurprisingly, turned to Doctor Who, and according to the Press Association, Barrowman reckons that the next generation of the Doctor should be a woman.

"I think a female doctor might work, you never know. The audience might not like that. I know there's a lot of young girls and women who would love that,” he said.

"I think that maybe they should go out on a limb next time and try it. That always stirs things up a little bit and makes things exciting and it's nice to see different things and challenges happen like that.”

When pushed as to a suggestion for who should be cast, should the next Doctor be a woman, he said that “I have no idea. I always thought Catherine Tate would make a lovely female Doctor, if they did something with her character, but I don’t know. I have no idea”.

Barrowman also reiterated his desire to return to the show, particularly with the 50th anniversary coming up in 2013. Considering that it was Steven Moffat who introduced Captain Jack to Doctor Who, we suspect that he might just get his wish...
