Joel McHale and Gillian Jacobs on more Community
Jeff and Britta, aka Joel McHale and Gillian Jacobs are up for making more Community...
Speaking at the Monte Carlo TV Festival, Community's Joel McHale and Gillian Jacobs have confirmed their interest in making another season of the cancelled sitcom should the opportunity arise. No surprises there then.
McHale told reporters, "I loved how the season ended with Danny’s character, Abed, saying basically the world will explode if we don’t come back. It’s canon and that’s it. That said, I would still love to do another season." Jacobs added, "I’m very glad that we got to do another season of Dan Harmon’s Community, but like Joel, I would always like to do more. I know other actors who are relieved when their shows get cancelled and I’ve never felt that way about Community."
Were the pair surprised when they heard the cancellation news earlier this year? "I think we got too cocky perhaps because we cheated death so many times", said Jacobs, "I was very surprised and very sad, I will admit that I actually cried". "I thought our ratings comparatively were good for the network, so I thought mathematically we would make it that way", continued McHale, "but I was clearly wrong".
But having series creator Dan Harmon back for season five was a boon, both agreed. "Having Dan back was like having oxygen pumped back into the submarine that was resting at the bottom of the ocean", said McHale, calling season five "glorious to participate in" before joking about bringing the sitcom back as a touring Christmas pantomime production.
We await further news of the rumoured talks between Sony and Hulu for a sixth season (and a movie?) of Harmon's sitcom. Until then, are we the only ones who don't think that touring pantomime sounds like such a terrible idea?
