Community season 4 delayed

Community fans are going to have to wait indefinitely for the show’s fourth season, as NBC announce premiere delay…

Friday October the 19th was originally the day circled on our calendars for the return of NBC’s Community in the US, but you can put a big fat cross through that, as the network has announced it’s delaying the return of the show until an unspecified future date.

Fans will know that Community already hasn’t had the smoothest of years, with the removal of showrunner and creator Dan Harmon this spring following low viewing figures and months of hostility between Harmon and star Chevy Chase, making this the latest in a list of set-backs for the comedy.

NBC had this to say on the matter:

"Given the success we’ve had for the past four weeks - including winning the first week of the season in adults 18-49 - we’ve decided to continue to concentrate our promotional strength on our new NBC shows that are scheduled Monday through Wednesday and have therefore decided to hold Community and Whitney from their previously announced premieres of Oct. 19 […] Without having to launch these comedies on Friday at this time, we can keep our promotion focused on earlier in the week; plus, we will have both comedies in our back pocket if we need to make any schedule changes on those nights. When we have a better idea of viewing patterns in the next few weeks, we will announce new season premieres of Whitney and Community."

As soon as a premiere date is released, we’ll let you know.

I have a bad feeling about this...

C'mon old yeller, let's go for a walk.

I'm not the most in-the-loop person for these kind of things, but from what I've been reading NBC was never likely to show Community on Fridays. This could actually be beneficial if it replaces a Wednesday show and maintains similar numbers to last year. It all depends on how soon it happens for a back 9 order, the sooner the better. I'd say chances of a season 5 are about the same as they were before this move. Halloween episode in February, wouldn't that be classic Community?

And, Honey Boo Boo gets another season.

This is an unfortunate Chang of schedule.

This is really sad. I've been counting down the days until the 19th, and now I have no idea when I might be able to see my beloved Community again. Seeing as this is the final season, and it's shortened, I just think it's a shame that they can't even treat it with the respect it deserves.

I don't think it's getting a fifth season or even a back nine. Wasn't it confirmed that this was the last season, and it was going to be shorter to round out the stories, a la Fringe?

Annies's boobs!

30 Rock and The Office are the 2 NBC comedies that were confirmed for final seasons. With those gone, and Animal Practice and Guys With Kids not doing very well, NBC may want a few stable comedies for next year. Parks & Rec. is likely to be one of them, why not Community? This is NBC, anything's possible (in a bad way, of course).

They mentioned delaying it in the same sentence as Whitney. It's doomed.

Ha! Brilliant!

No decision has been made on this being the final season, and although its likely to be a 13 episode series, the show-runners have plans in place to cope with a late additional episode order. At least that's what is being reported in the US geek web-sites.

Uggh! I can see delaying Whitney because that show is just horrible, but Community is hysterical and has a loyal passionate fan base. NBC must want everyone to hate them.

Six seasons and a movie!
