Actress Charlotte Rampling will play "a pivotal part" in Broadchurch series 2...

As filming begins in just a few weeks, Broadchurch's second series secrets are beginning to tumble out.

Not only has it been confirmed that David Tennant will be joining Olivia Colman in a return to the ITV crime mystery series, but now Charlotte Rampling has been announced as playing a lead role in the second run.

Rampling recently saw out Dexter's troubled final season in the role of Dr Evelyn Vogel, so this marks a second venture into the world of television for the veteran film actress.

Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall commented, "We have another big story to tell this year and that meant finding exceptional actors for new roles. There's none more exceptional than Charlotte: to be writing for her is a dream come true. Charlotte's character is an integral part of our new story."

ITV head of drama Steve November called the announcement just "the first of some exciting additions to the ensemble for the new series". Who else might Chibnall and co. have up their sleeves?
