With a working title of Better Call Saul, AMC has announced that Vince Gilligan's proposed Saul Goodman Breaking Bad spin-off is go.
Now confirmed to be a prequel, Better Call Saul will begin life as a one-hour special focusing on how Bob Odenkirk's character evolved in the days before Walter White was the one who knocks. There's life in Saul Goodman yet then, even if the Breaking Bad finale doesn't quite go his way...

AMC AND SONY PICTURES TELEVISION STATEMENT ON BREAKING BAD SPINOFF NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 11, 2013 – AMC and Sony Pictures Television confirmed today that they have reached a licensing agreement for a spinoff of Vince Gilligan’s landmark AMC/SPT series Breaking Bad. As conceived, the new series is based on the show’s popular Saul Goodman character with the working title Better Call Saul. Plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character before he ever became Walter White’s lawyer.
