The final season of HBO's superlative Boardwalk Empire begins on September the 7th in the US...

Nucky Thompson will be back on the boardwalk as of September the 7th, HBO has confirmed at the ongoing Television Critics Association tour.

The fifth and final season of Terence Winter's prohibition-era drama will start on Sunday the 7th of September, taking the finale - if the eight-episode series airs without interruption - to late October 2014.

Our US chums learned earlier this year from Chalky White actor Michael K. Williams that season five will take place during the great depression in 1931, seven years after the end of season four. "The days of shiny suits and fancy shoes are long gone", Williams announced.

God I love this show, it's just dripping in quality, every thing about it is superb, writing, performances, production design, casting, amazing, gutted this is the last season.

So disappointed that the show is ending, it has never been given the praise it deserves (aside from fanastic reviews on this site). I hope the time jump and shortened season don't ruin the final season.

I totally agree with the previous two comments and although I'm looking forward to the return of The Board Walk Empire, It's a bitter sweet moment as its the last series. Just like to say well done to all those involved who brought The Board Walk Empire to the TV and the cast and crew who made it possible.
(damn you reality TV you killing quality programmes)

Love Boadwalk Empire, has such a great feel to it as themanlikedave says. Disappointed it's ending but I'm sure HBO will have something great to replace it with.
