The start date for the third and final series of Ashes To Ashes has been confirmed - and it's not what you might be expecting...

The BBC has now confirmed that the eagerly awaited third series of Ashes To Ashes - the one that'll mark the end of DCI Gene Hunt's adventures - will be screened fron Friday 2nd April at 9pm.

The move to Friday nights is a bold one, as it's traditionally been considered a graveyard slot for drama. But the BBC has confidence in the show, and you'd imagine it's looking for a large number of people who might miss it on a Friday to watch it on a catch-up service over the weekend. We understand that it will remain in a Friday slot from that point onwards, but that has yet to be formally confirmed.

The change will affect the long-running Friday night stalwart Have I Got News For You, which is shifting to Thursday nights on BBC One.

It'll be a blockbuster Easter weekend on BBC One as a result. The start of a new series of Ashes To Ashes on Good Friday, followed by the new series of Doctor Who on the Saturday? It's enough to make you gloss over the beginning of the live shows of the BBC's new Andrew Lloyd Webber-infested hunt-for-a-musical-star show, which commences on Saturday 3rd.
