John Barrowman now a regular in Arrow season 3

John Barrowman's Arrow character, Malcolm Merlyn, has been promoted to a series regular for season 3...

"Time has proven that it's very difficult to kill John Barrowman". These were the words of Arrow lead Stephen Amell to Den Of Geek on the cusp of the DC-inspired show's second season. How right he was.

We'll be seeing a great deal more of Barrowman's villainous Arrow character (formerly known as the Well-Dressed Man, now Malcolm Merlyn), in season three as the actor has been promoted from guest role to series regular. It's good news for Barrowman fans, but another delay to the schedule of anyone waiting patiently for a Torchwood revival.

Here's The CW's official bumf about Arrow's third season:

"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. He returned home to Starling City, bent on righting the wrongs of his family and fighting injustice. To do this, he creates the persona of the Arrow and allies himself with former military man John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer-science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), street brawler Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) and international assassin Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), while keeping his secret from those closest to him including his sister Thea (Willa Holland), who has allied herself with his most deadly enemy. Rivalries and allegiances will shift as Oliver faces his most difficult challenge yet."

The only thing to take from that is 'Rivlries and allegiances will shift as Oliver faces his most difficult challenge yet'.

Im just pleased Caity Lotz is on the list, as much as I love the show, I dont want her to leave, ever.

All I know is that after Crixus, I mean... Slade.. they're gonna have a job to give us an enemy with as much overpowering presence.

"but another delay to the schedule of anyone waiting patiently for a Torchwood revival."
So nobody then?

He's going to find out about his kid, Slade will escape the island again, he'll be training Laurel, and Captain Jack is going to turn Thea against him. I imagine it will be more of a difficult emotional challenge than anything.

Oh I've just watched the latest UK episode where Thea shoots at Merlyn at the end.

That's solves that cliffhanger then ;-)

I definitely would, but only if done right. More Series 1& 2 and Children of Earth, less Miracle Day.

Well... there is no new Torchwood to be made for the coming years anyway.

Was thinking exactly this when watching the penultimate episode of season 2 last night. She's great as the Black Canary. Laurel is getting moderately less annoying, albeit starting from a position of being extremely annoying, but I really hope they don't try and get her to replace Sara.

Ah, good riddance to Torchwood anyway. Children of Earth was the only good one tbh.

How is he going to fitting filming in with his schedule of presenting BBC1 afternoon quiz shows?? The guys diverse if nothing else

That's exactly what we thought at the end of Season 1 about Barrowman!

Have you seen The Machine? Caity is awesome in it, and often nude . . . . just saying

Malcolm merlyn will train thea and they will become the antagonist of season 3 and team arrow will keep fighting different villains and also oliver trying to take control of queen consolidated, diggle will train felicity and oliver will train laurel. Roy will be with the arrow all of the time the true sidekick, my opinions of the beginning of season 3.

Sigh, But CoE also showed us what Torchwood can be! Season 2 was very good also and Season 1 and Miracle Day have had their moments.

The one thing that is known to most Torchwood fans is that IF we do get a new Torchwood the Arrow bosses have already said they would make space for it so John could do both. One of the reasons John got the role was because of his role of Captain Jack Harkness!
